The airspace around El Paso in West Texas was closed for several hours after drones from drug cartels entered U.S. airspace, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy wrote on X.

The drones came from Mexican cartels, a government official said, according to several US media outlets. The drones were then reportedly defused.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) first announced that the airspace would be closed for ten days, but after a few hours it announced that the closure was over.

El Paso is located right on the border with Mexico.

But Congresswoman Veronica Escobar said Congress has not been informed about any Mexican drones.

There was no threat, which is why the FAA lifted this restriction so quickly. The information from the government is not correct, she said, according to The New York Times.
