If the parties do not agree on an agreement before 04:30 on Monday, May 26, many flights and passengers risk being left on the ground. From Arlanda alone, the companies SAS, Norwegian, and Tuifly have warned about around 80 departures that may be affected on Monday.

This concerns destinations all over the world, major cities like Paris, London, and New York, but also flights between towns in Sweden and to tourist resorts in Europe, such as Gran Canaria and Malaga.

From May 26 to 28, a strike has been warned also at Amapola Flyg AB, Braathens People AB, Cityjet A/S, Norwegian Air Sweden Aoc AB, SAS Connect Crew Services Sweden Filial, Scandinavian Airlines System Denmark-Norway-Sweden.

Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1, a strike has been issued from 04:00 to 12:00 at the charter airlines Sunclass Airlines, TuiIfly, and Jettime.

Better Conditions

The Transport Workers' Union believes that the employer, Svenska Flygbranschen, is not meeting them regarding improved conditions for cabin crew.

Initially, a blockade - of all work outside the regular basic schedule and a recruitment and hiring blockade - was to have begun on May 21, but now it has been postponed to May 26 at 04:30. Thus, a strike and blockade can occur simultaneously if no agreement is reached.

Svenska Flygbranschen has, in turn, responded to the warnings with a so-called mirror lockout, which means that the employer locks out exactly the workers that the union has called out on strike.

"Now the limit has been passed, and our members say stop, it's enough", said Transport's chairman Tommy Wreeth in a press release last week.

Following the Mark

Svenska Flygbranschen has offered Transport an agreement that follows the mark that applies according to the Industry Agreement, which implies a cost increase of 6.4 percent over two years. The employer believes that the mark is crucial for Swedish competitiveness.

A mediator from the Mediation Institute has been appointed to try to resolve the conflict, and the parties met for negotiations on Wednesday. However, no bid is said to have been presented yet.
