The flight attendant was kept in isolation in a hospital with mild symptoms. However, tests on Friday morning showed that she had not been infected.

The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that the test result was negative, according to RTL.

The flight attendant was the first suspected case outside the cruise ship MV Hondius. She had contact with the 69-year-old woman who died of a confirmed hantavirus infection in South Africa on April 26.

The woman's husband, a 70-year-old Dutch man, died on board the ship on April 11 and was taken ashore on the Atlantic island of Saint Helena on April 24. The woman then flew to Johannesburg, South Africa.
