For example, the average three-year interest rate rose to 3.48 percent among the 13 banks surveyed. In August, the corresponding rate was 3.32 percent, according to a review by comparison site Zmarta.

The average five-year interest rate rose from 3.56 percent in August to 3.65 percent in September.

At the same time, the average variable interest rate remained largely unchanged at 2.72 percent.

"The difference between variable and fixed rates has rarely been as big as it is now. Anyone who wants to insure themselves against interest rate increases has to pay a high price for security," says Ola Söderlind, household economist at Zmarta, in a written comment.
