The five were arrested on Friday in the Paphos district, which is in the southwestern part of the island. The vehicle in which they were travelling contained, among other things, a gun, two knives and masks, the police write on their website. The suspects are in their 20s and 30s.
According to information provided to the news site Philenews , the five are Swedish citizens.
Friday's arrest is linked to a previous operation in which three people, two from Norway and one from Ireland, were arrested on suspicion of having been involved in planning the murder of a pair of twins, according to Philenews.
The police discovered the murder plans after Danish authorities raised the alarm. A Danish police officer, working undercover and posing as a torpedo, had been assigned to murder the twins.
