Five skiers, believed to be tourists, have been found buried in the snow on a mountain outside Zermatt in southeastern Switzerland, reports the news agency SDA.
The gruesome discovery was made when two mountaineers saw four pairs of skis at a mid-station on the Rimpfischhorn mountain, but no people. When the two made their way to the top of the mountain, they discovered that the skis were still untouched and alerted the rescue service.
A search operation was launched, and soon after, three bodies were found 500 meters from the skis on a glacier. Two more skiers were discovered later in the snow up the mountain. Doctors were able to pronounce them dead at the scene, but they have not been identified.
