Police spokesman Daniel Wikdahl says that he currently has five police cars that have been damaged in various ways, but that number may be revised.
The extent of the injuries to the police is unclear, and Wikdahl says he does not rule out that more police officers may need medical attention.
The chase began in Västertorp in southern Stockholm when a motorist failed to stop at a checkpoint. The chase then continued north along the E4, "sometimes at very high speeds," according to Wikdahl.
Only in Bromma in western Stockholm were the police able to stop the car through a pursuit.
After several attempts to break through along the way, even nail mats have been thrown out, says Daniel Wikdahl.
At least four police cars have had to be towed, one of which is said to have been hit by the perpetrator.
The driver of the car has been arrested and is suspected of gross negligence in traffic and driving under the influence of drugs. More criminal charges may be added.
