Seven police cars have been towed after Saturday night's car chase through Stockholm. The driver, a man in his 20s, is now suspected of several serious crimes.

It was just after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday evening that the police began a pursuit in Västertorp in southwest Stockholm after a car refused to stop at a stop sign.

Several patrols were involved in the chase and the car continued north on the E4, west towards Järva and south through Spånga, at times at very high speeds. It was not until Bromma in western Stockholm that the police were able to stop the car.

This was after several attempts to break in along the way. Spike mats have also been thrown out, says police spokesman Daniel Wikdahl.

During the chase, no fewer than seven police cars collided, mainly when they tried to stop the car.

Three police officers were injured and are being checked by medical personnel. They are assessed to have minor injuries. The suspect is being treated in hospital with unclear injuries.

He is suspected of gross negligence in traffic, gross drug driving, drug offenses, gross unlawful driving, leaving the scene of a traffic accident and causing bodily harm.
