Early Tuesday morning, an alarm was raised about a fire in Hasselbacken in Vantaa, north of Helsinki. Two adults and three children died. One infant survived and is being treated in hospital.
It was an unusually strong fire, said fire chief on duty Markus Kuosmanen to Finnish media at a press conference.
Three more people are being treated in hospital with minor injuries, according to HBL.
A man in his 70s, who lives in the same house, has been arrested after turning himself in to police. Based on the technical investigation, the police say with certainty that the fire was arson, HBL writes.
The police do not believe that the act was directed at any person, but the case is being investigated as murder and gross sabotage, the police told Finnish media.
