According to the newspaper Nice-Matin, several arrests have been made, but only two of those arrested were involved in the burglary.
It was on Tuesday, September 8, that burglars broke into the art museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer. The museum, near the French Riviera, was the last home of artist Auguste Renoir, who died there in 1919.
The Renoir Museum opened in 1960 and houses objects and furniture that belonged to the artist, including his easel and wheelchair, as well as portraits and paintings of landscapes and nudes.
The theft took place less than a year after eight objects worth around one billion kronor were stolen from the Louvre in Paris. The robbers in that heist have been arrested, but the objects are still missing.
