It was just after 7 pm on Sunday when the police were alerted about loud bangs in the Årby district of Eskilstuna. At a bus stop in the area, a man in his 20s with gunshot wounds was found and taken to hospital, but later died of his injuries.

In recent years, the area has been hit by several notable shootings. The bus stop where Sunday's shooting occurred is located near a school, and on Monday, staff had to cover a bloodstain on the ground with gravel so that the students wouldn't see it, according to Eskilstuna-Kuriren.

A boy and his family saw the ambulance and police arrive at the crime scene.

It was a guy who got shot there. It was someone's son. Some were very upset – others shocked, he tells the newspaper.

According to Eskilstuna-Kuriren, rumors and video clips from the incident have spread, and the municipality has now deployed extra personnel to create a sense of security for children on their way to school.

There are many children who witnessed the incident yesterday, so we are here as adults and will meet up if needed, says Lisa Edholm, development manager for elementary school in Eskilstuna, to Eskilstuna-Kuriren.

The five people who are now detained were arrested on Sunday night.
