Nordic combined has lost its Olympic status until the 2030 Games in France. One reason is that the sport has too few female athletes. At the 2026 Olympics, it was the only sport in which women were not allowed to compete.

The sport is now looking to attract more women. FIS is increasing women’s prize money by 10 percent per season over the next three years. The goal is for women to receive at least as much prize money as men by 2030.

"It means a lot, and it has been a central issue for a long time. It has taken its time," Norway’s Nordic combined coach Ivar Stuan told NTB.

At the same time, FIS is investing in more competitions and new formats to further strengthen the sport’s chances of returning to the Olympics.
