The 21-year-old thus became the second Swede ever to drive a Ferrari during a racing weekend in F1. Stefan "Lill-Lövis" Johansson competed for the classic Italian team during two seasons, 1985-86.
Beganovic, who drives Formula 2 for Ferrari, got to drive the first free practice session ahead of the Bahrain GP - side by side with teammate and superstar Lewis Hamilton. The Swede drove the car usually used by Charles Leclerc.
"Practice completed, and a dream has come true for me today. I'm very pleased. Everything went according to plan, no problems, and we did what we wanted. It almost feels unnecessary to say that it was an entirely, entirely incredible experience. I'll remember it forever", says the Swede in a press release.
"Now my focus is back on Formula 2 and achieving the best possible results there."
Four times a year, F1 teams must let drivers who have not driven more than three GP races take over the car. The fact that many choose to do so just this weekend is because they already got to feel the Bahrain tracks during the test days in February, ahead of the season.
After Friday's performance, Beganovic shifts focus to the F2 race of the weekend, which is also held in Bahrain.
