Swede Nils Höglander and his teammate Steven Stamkos looked like heroes for Nashville for a long time. Their two goals each had given Toronto a 4-2 lead with just over five minutes left in the second period.
Then Toronto rookie Gavin McKenna stepped up. The 18-year-old was the first overall pick in the draft and showed why, reducing the deficit to 3-4 with a cool shot just a minute after Stamkos’s second goal.
The Canadian also recorded an assist in the game - his first NHL point.
Swedish star William Nylander had a goal and two assists as Toronto won 5-4 in overtime.
