The 24-year-old from Karlstad made his league debut in October and had made two assists in 18 matches played before tonight's game.
Just over six minutes into the second period, he caught a long and high-flying pass from teammate Jordan Spence, stormed past two New Jersey defenders, and sent a precise shot past the opposing goalkeeper.
It was a good pass from "Spenny" there. It was good speed and I was alone with the goalkeeper, it was nice to see it go in, says Lee to reporters after the game.
Will frame the puck
According to tradition, NHL players receive the puck with which they scored their first goal.
I think they'll frame it and give it to me in a few weeks or so. I'll probably put it up on the wall at home, says Andre Lee about his puck.
He's looking forward to talking to his parents and girlfriend after the game.
The whole family. But yeah, it was great to get a win too. The goal is just a bonus.
"Couldn't stop smiling"
Los Angeles coach Jim Hiller notes that it was a happy Lee who left the ice after the game.
He couldn't stop smiling, says Hiller.
Quinton Byfield extended the lead to 2–0 in the final period, before Los Angeles' Swedish point king Adrian Kempe sealed the result and set 3–0 in an empty net at the end of the final period.
Andre Lee notes that the game, which was played on the evening of January 1 American time, marked a really good start to the new year.
It was top-notch. Happy New Year, he says to reporters.
