The big goal of the season is to defend the Olympic gold medal from 2022 in Italy. Until then, it's about getting started after almost a year without competitions. For Walter Wallberg, that was no problem – who came second in the moguls World Cup premiere in Ruka.

The 25-year-old made a brilliant World Cup debut in Finland, winning the qualifiers and finishing second in the final to advance to the super final.

There the Swede put in a stable and good ride.

But 82.47 points were not enough for a victory.

The reigning Olympic champion had to settle for second place as Japan's Ikuma Horishima was slightly faster and won in 83.48. Nick Page, USA, came third in 79.62.

Walter Wallberg – who, together with Filip Gravenfors, has already been selected for the Olympics in February – had to cancel last season just after Christmas due to injuries. Instead of the World Championships, he had shoulder surgery. In addition, his back has been a problem and his knees, as usual, have been a problem.

Now, however, all injury concerns should be gone.

Gravenfors and Rasmus Stegfeldt did not advance to the super final.

Elis Lundholm, Nova Nilsson, Moa Gustafson and Nicolina Stenkula did not advance from the women's qualifiers.

The next competition awaits on Monday, also in Ruka, Finland.
