The landslide in January created a four-kilometer-long ravine and forced more than 1,600 people to evacuate. The library partially hangs over the precipice. The operation was carried out using drones and sensors to monitor movement.

Firefighters drilled through the wall of the building behind the structure and made brief entries, strapping down the bookshelves and pulling them back to access the books.

The library holds around 4,000 works, including unique editions dating from before 1830 and a book from the 16th century. More books remain, and authorities are considering using robots for continued rescue efforts.
