There is nothing to indicate that the fire started in any other way than through an accident or spontaneous combustion, says Simon Gerhardsen, head of department at Drammen police, to Drammens Tidende.

No one has so far been suspected of any crime in connection with the fire, which forced over 400 people to evacuate.

The area is still too hot for forensics to examine. But police have an idea of where the fire started and confirm to the Norwegian local newspaper that an area to be investigated has been cordoned off.

“Localized the place”

"We believe we have located the location where the fire started. We are now working to collect images and videos from the area to get as clear a picture as possible of what it looked like when the fire started," says Gerhardsen.

The fire is still not under control.

"There is currently no risk of spread. However, overall the fire is still not considered to be under control because there is a lot of residual heat that causes sporadic fires to flare up and must be managed," police chief Espen Reite told NTB.

There are still no reports of missing people, but many Norwegians are still looking for their pets.

Happiness in misery

Frank and Lena Stiby lived with their two cats in one of the burned-down houses.

The cat Leo was at home and evacuated with the couple, but Mio, named after Astrid Lindgren's classic "Mio min Mio", was outside.

Using GPS transmitters, the couple was able to see that Mio was among the fire-ravaged streets, and together with other pet owners, they have been searching for their pets.

On Saturday evening, they finally found their Mio.

"It's pure happiness. I'm so happy," Lena tells VG.

The street they used to live on is barely recognizable, several houses have burned to the ground. Despite that, Frank Stiby is happy.

"Now we should think about our four-legged friends. And of course, about ourselves. We are all alive - tonight we should be happy," he tells the Norwegian newspaper.

However, not everyone has been so lucky. At a press conference on Saturday evening, Drammen's acting police chief Geir Oustorp said that many animals are still missing after the fire.

There is an opportunity for those who miss their cat to be there and look for it, he says.
