The alarm came shortly after 1 am on Sunday night. The fire, which started on a balcony or in an apartment high up in the building, spread up into the roof structure.

A total of 55 people had to be evacuated from a handful of stairwells. There are no reports of any injured people.

On Sunday morning, the building was still on fire, but the rescue operation could then begin to wind down. The operation was completed at 2 pm according to the rescue service.

100 apartments are affected by the fire, writes GP. The hardest hit are two stairwells, one where the fire started, with 20 apartments each.

Residents have been allowed to retrieve a bag with their most important belongings. But when it will be possible to move back to the apartments is unclear.

We don't know anything right now, says Sara Fischer, security chief at the landlord Bostadsbolaget, to GP.

What started the fire is not known.

The incident is being investigated as aggravated arson, says Adam Isaksson Samara at the police to GP.

At present, there is no suspect for the crime.
