The public is urged to stay indoors and close doors, windows, and doors due to the massive smoke development from the fire. The appeal is expected to apply until Monday morning, but those who do not feel bothered by the smoke do not need to stay indoors, writes the rescue service on its website.

The fire started on Friday in recyclable materials at the facility. The rescue service had it under control, but on Sunday it flared up again and has spread due to strong winds.

Two fires

About ten units from the rescue service are on site to combat the fire. The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) is also assisting.

The MSB has provided two helicopters that are dropping water from above, says Johan Gustafsson to TT.

There are two parallel fires at the facility, one in an adjacent tire depot and one in a press hall.

The risk has been that there is a lot of smoke and that tires explode. You have to keep a safe distance, says Gustafsson.

Office nearby

The police are on site with several units. Businesses nearby have been evacuated and roads around the area have been blocked off to facilitate the rescue service's access with, among other things, tanker trucks.

The fire is still not under control and there is a risk of spreading to an office building nearby. The extinguishing work is expected to continue for several days, and they have turned to rescue services from other regions for relief.
