Several people have been injured in a fire at an elderly home in Huddinge, south of Stockholm.

Three people were taken to hospital with smoke injuries. Additionally, several other people received care on site, writes the police on their website.

Mikael Nygren, incident commander at the rescue service, tells SVT Stockholm that the injured were lightly hurt.

There are no burns, but lighter smoke injuries, he says.

The alarm about the fire came at 14:30 on Wednesday.

The elderly home consists of two buildings and the fire occurred in one of them. In the evening, the situation had improved and the rescue service could scale down their operation.

The fire is under control. We are ensuring that we do not have any structural fires, says Anders Hägglund, duty officer at the rescue service.

All residents at the elderly home were evacuated, writes Huddinge municipality on their website. The municipality is working with Region Stockholm to resolve evacuation housing for those affected.

What caused the fire is not known. The police are investigating the incident as gross negligence.
