On Saturday morning, the Serie A club announced that Rocco Commisso has died, aged 76.
"After a long period of medical treatment, our beloved president has left us, and today we all mourn his passing," Fiorentina wrote on its website.
Commisso took over the club in the summer of 2019 and became a central figure in Fiorentina's modern history, taking the team to two Conference League finals and one domestic Italian Cup final during his time at the helm.
Rocco Commisso was born in Italy but moved to the United States at the age of twelve. There he built his career, and in 2017 he became the majority owner of the New York Cosmos in the American Soccer League.
