The TV series, which began airing a few days before the puppies were born in October, has attracted attention from CNN and several British newspapers, which have described it as “Big Brother for dogs.”
Even though the live broadcast is mostly about the Lagotto Romagnolo puppies eating and sleeping up to 20 hours a day, the program has millions of viewers, according to Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
“Pentulive” (“pentu” means puppy in Finnish) also has a website that streams live. Last year’s litter drew around 6.5 million visits, a figure expected to be surpassed this year.
The program, which is shown on Yle and SVT Play, has also been sold to other countries, including the Netherlands.
