The current criminal suspicion concerns environmental pollution, but additional charges may be added, according to Yle, which reports that the suspected party in the case is Google subsidiary Tuike Finland.

"According to preliminary information, there have been uncertainties and deficiencies in drainage and water management at the construction site of Tuike Finland Oy's data center project," the police wrote in a press release.

Google was ordered to halt work on the data center earlier in October. The company was also suspected of having cleared large areas of forest without conducting an impact assessment.

The investment is estimated at around 13 billion euros, equivalent to 146 billion SEK.
