A preliminary investigation has been launched. The case is being investigated as attempted aggravated theft, Helsinki police announced.

The Finnish parliament held an emergency security meeting this week, where members were informed of an intrusion or attempted intrusion that may be linked to a foreign power. A “significant” number of members are said to have raised the alarm about possible intruders.

“Traces have been found, and it is believed they were meant to be discovered,” said Speaker of the Finnish Parliament Jussi Halla-Aho last Thursday.

"As the investigation is ongoing, the police are not taking a position on the possible background, perpetrators or motives of the events," Helsinki police announced.
