The Swedish NHL star Adrian Kempe scored 1-0 for his Los Angeles just 32 seconds into the away game against Colorado. Before the first period was over, the forward had also scored his second goal of the evening, making it 2-1, and is now credited with seven goals this season.

Then the Finnish superstar Mikko Rantanen stole the show.

With a hat-trick – one goal in the second and two goals in the third period – Rantanen turned a 1-2 deficit into a win for Colorado with 4-2. The final goal came into an empty net when Los Angeles was chasing an equalizer.

Rantanen now has twelve goals and shares the top scorer lead with, among others, William Nylander, who scored a goal when Toronto beat Washington 4-3 after overtime.

Colorado star Nathan MacKinnon had three assists in the game and tops the NHL's scoring league with his 33 points.
