Finnish ferries reduce speed to save fuel

Both shipping companies say they have or will adjust their schedules to bring the departures forward. According to Johanna Boijer-Svahnström, Communications Director at Viking Line, fuel consumption can be optimized if the speed is reduced.

"Better this than having to raise ticket prices," she told Yle.

Every minute matters now that fuel prices are high.

The changes mean that the ships will depart approximately 15 to 30 minutes earlier and - depending on the ship - arrive slightly later, according to Yle.
