Finland crushed by rampant USA

In nearly two periods, Finland kept up and gave the USA a match in the Four Nations. Then everything fell apart. Finland lost big, 1–6, and will aim for revenge on Saturday against Sweden. We need to be better, says team captain Aleksander Barkov.

Montreal forward Joel Armia has the recipe clear on how the Finnish team should approach the rivalry match against Sweden on Saturday.

The faster we forget this, the better for the match on Saturday, says Armia.

He is determined that Sweden should pay for the big loss.

Yes, really.

Finland had 1–1 for almost two periods and the match was even, tight and uncertain.

Fell apart

But with barely three minutes left of the second period, Matt Boldy scored 2–1 for the USA.

In the beginning of the third period, Finland then totally fell apart.

Matthew Tkachuk scored 3–1 on a power play after 15 seconds and just nine seconds later, Jake Guentzel added to make it 4–1.

As if it wasn't enough, Brady Tkachuk increased the score to 5–1 after three minutes.

"Have to learn"

The quick goals ruined the evening for Finland and the injuries on the defense with three withdrawals, including star Miro Heiskanen, seem to have had a significant impact.

We needed a better start to the third period. I thought we did really well in two periods, we have to learn from this and move on, says Aleksander Barkov, Stanley Cup winner with Florida in June.

The brothers Matthew and Brady Tkachuk scored two goals each for the USA, which was booed by the audience in Bell Centre in Montreal both during the national anthem and the presentation of the starting lineup.

The USA is not highly regarded after President Donald Trump's statements about tariffs and seeing Canada as the 51st state.

But the nations are also rivals in the Four Nations and are tipped by most to compete for the final victory in the tournament.

It's not just the Finland match in the next round, on Sunday night, Canada and the USA will also meet in another hot rivalry match.
