Eero Hirvonen ended Finland's four-year Olympic medal drought by taking bronze in today's Olympic Nordic combined competition.

Finland failed to win a single medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris - so Hirvonen's bronze medal is the first in the Finnish collection since the national ice hockey team won Olympic gold in Beijing in 2022.

The gold in Nordic combined went to Norwegian Jens Luraas Oftebro ahead of Austrian Johannes Lamparter on tracks that were far from ideal at the ski stadium in Val di Fiemme.

"So loose and heavy that it will be a brutal 10 kilometers. I would almost call it unworthy conditions for an Olympics," said commentator Fredrik Aukland on Norwegian television, according to news agency NTB.
