The total weight has been tentatively measured at approximately 4.5 kilograms. The find has not yet been cleaned, separated or counted, so exact details of the weight, number of items and date will be determined later.

The hoard contained silver coins and several silver objects in two straw containers buried a few decimetres deep.

A metal detector enthusiast discovered the treasure last week. The site was investigated the following day under the leadership of archaeologist Esko Tikkala from Lahti Museums.

The previously largest known Viking Age hoard in Finland was found in 1895. It contained around 1,700 coins and other objects with a total weight of approximately 2.2 kilograms.
