Things looked solid in the opening minutes for the Finnish Lions, who led 1–0 after the first period and extended their lead to 2–0 just short of halfway through the second. But with just half a minute left in the middle period, Slovakia pulled one back.

However, in the final period Finland stepped up and effectively decided the match. Slovakia pulled their goalkeeper early on, but failed to score any more goals. Instead, Finland scored two goals in open play.

For Finland, the bronze was a bit of a consolation after losing a real shocker to Canada in the semi-final, where the winning goal was scored with just 36 seconds left.

On Sunday, Canada and the United States will meet in the Olympic final.
