In the second semi-final of the Junior World Championship, which is being played in Ottawa, Canada, the Czech Republic will face the USA. This match will take place after the Swedish-Finnish settlement.
Since Sweden won its quarter-final against Latvia with 3–2, Finland did its duty and won its quarter-final with 5–3 against Slovakia.
The USA had no problem whatsoever in eliminating Switzerland with 7–2. But then Canada disappointed the home crowd by losing a tight, dramatic and grueling match against the Czech Republic. It was the Canadians' third loss in five matches played in the tournament, and now the home team is eliminated. It was not expected.
Just like Sweden's quarter-final win over Latvia, the Czechs' battle with Canada was a match with a lot of drama.
The Czech Republic had a 3–2 lead when the third period began, but with only just over four minutes left, Canada equalized.
But the Canadians were then given a penalty, and at the end of the numerical superiority, the Czech Republic's Adam Jecho managed to score 4–3, with 40 seconds left of the match.
Sweden's semi-final against Finland will be played on Saturday evening, 21.30 Swedish time.
