According to the proposal, the Border Guard will be given the right to stop or prevent damage to critical underwater infrastructure.
Among other things, this would give the authority more power to intervene against unmanned vehicles, such as drones.
"One of the goals of the government programme is to develop the powers of the Border Guard so that they correspond to today's world and security policy environment," the Ministry of the Interior writes in a press release .
In accordance with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Border Guard would also be given the right to stop and inspect vessels within Finland's economic zone if the vessel is suspected of lacking nationality.
