Finland has initiated "confidential" discussions with France, the Presidential Office and the Ministry of Defense in Helsinki announced.
It is above all about strengthening the security of Finland and Europe, President Alexander Stubb said at a press conference, emphasizing that no nuclear weapons will be stationed in Finland during peacetime.
With Finland's accession, all Nordic countries except Iceland are included in the French nuclear weapons initiative, which aims to strengthen European defence and reduce dependence on the U.S. The cooperation is expected to include joint exercises.
Sweden held its first meeting with France back in April.
