Finland Faces Historic Javelin Setback at World Championships

Lassi Etelätalo, Oliver Helander and Eemil Porvarvi were all knocked out in the qualifying round – and for Porvarvi it was also the end point of his career.

The fiasco follows last year's European Championship in Rome, where Finland was left without a medal in all events. Much suggests that the gloomy trend can continue even in Tokyo.

"This is a catastrophe", writes the newspaper Iltalehti.

Most recently Finland was without a male javelin thrower in a global championship final outdoors was at the Olympic Games in Melbourne 1956. But then they had no javelin thrower in the squad.
