The manifesto is backed by the organizations Independent Filmmakers' Association, Film Center South, Swedish Film Directors, Wift Sweden, Center for Dramatic South and the Swedish Film Association.
In the manifesto, it demands that the art of cinema should not be reduced to “audience goals, efficiency requirements or short-term profitability.” Instead, it calls for a film policy that involves strong public funding that protects “independent structures at arm’s length.”
The manifesto draws on the research report "Important question, but who cares?", by Maria Jansson, associate professor of political science and professor of gender studies at Örebro University.
The report and manifesto will be presented at the Gothenburg Film Festival on January 24.
