Filippa Bergand Saves Match Point to Qualify for European Table Tennis Championships Main Draw

The decisive group match had everything. After a tense contest, Filippa Bergand has qualified for the main tournament at the European Table Tennis Championships. “It’s just a relief,” Bergand told SVT, tears in her eyes, after beating Hungary’s Nora Dohoczki.

Bergand needed to beat Dohoczki to qualify for the main tournament in Slovenia, but the match got off to a bad start for the 27-year-old.

Bergand made several simple mistakes and fell 1–2 behind. As if that weren’t enough, she was also distracted by the crowd.

Then came the turning point.

Bergand won the fourth set, then saved a match point in the deciding tiebreak before winning 12–10 to take the match 3–2 and qualify for the main tournament.

Stina Källberg has also qualified for the main tournament at the European Championships, which begin on Wednesday.
