According to fire chief John Donnelly, there is no longer any hope of anyone surviving the plane crash.

A total of 67 people were on board the domestic plane and military helicopter that collided.

Several were American figure skaters and their coaches.

The young athletes were part of a development group that was on its way home from a camp held in connection with the American Championships in Wichita, Kansas.

"We are devastated by this tragedy and hold the victims' families close to our hearts," writes the American Figure Skating Association in a statement according to the Kansas City Star.

Figure skaters Luke Wang and Ethan Peal have also expressed their condolences.

"Pray for everyone who was on the flight," Wang writes on X.

"It's totally heartbreaking."

Peal:

"I'm in shock. Praying for all the families."

Russian news agency Tass writes that former figure skating stars Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were also on the plane. Together, the married couple won World Championship gold in Japan in 1994.
