EU member states and the European Parliament are seeking a compromise on proposals to update rules for air passengers that the Commission first put forward in 2013.

With the outcome still to be decided, the two sides remain far apart on how much delay compensation should be, when it should take effect, and whether it should be paid automatically.

"There is a real risk that we will not reach an agreement," said Johan Danielsson (S), a member of the European Parliament, in a text message to TT.

Parliament also wants to guarantee passengers the right to bring one carry-on bag free of charge, in addition to a smaller personal item that can fit under the seat.
