A fifth film? I'd love that, she says to TT.
In the new film "Bridget Jones – mad about the boy" Bridget Jones is once again single and on the hunt for love.
The American actress Renée Zellweger is in London, where there was a gala premiere, before heading to Amsterdam for another round of interviews.
It's been eight years since the last film. In "Bridget Jones – mad about the boy" Bridget's husband Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) has passed away and her former lover Daniel (Hugh Grant) is now one of her best friends.
"Don't understand why"
Bridget lives alone with two children – when she falls for the barely 30-year-old Roxster (Leo Woodall). Does the plot sound familiar? In recent years, a number of films have portrayed older women starting relationships with significantly younger men.
I don't understand why it's considered so sensational, says Renée Zellweger.
It's always been the case. There have been countless songs written about it, like "Mrs Robinson" and "Mad about the boy".
Maybe it's because the social taboos surrounding that type of relationship are disappearing, she reasons.
And that's a good thing. There are many things we don't need to have strong opinions about, for example where people find love. Why should it be a problem?
"Love" Bridget Jones
Returning to the role was a "no-brainer". Renée Zellweger emphasizes that she loves Bridget Jones and the opportunity to spend time in her world.
Think about revisiting a fictional character who has evolved in a parallel universe. She has changed, her values have changed, it's so fun to find a way into her psyche again.
In connection with the previous films, English tabloids wrote sensational articles about how much Renée Zellweger weighed, questioned her appearance, and speculated about whether she had had plastic surgery.
She herself is full of admiration for her character, whom she describes as "not overweight, sweet, but afraid of how others judge her".
But she is optimistic. She never gives up – she triumphs in the end. She is an inspiring person, she gives everyone a chance to explore who we are.
