The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is introducing its own peace prize. The first recipient of the award will be announced in a few weeks.

In Washington DC on December 5, in connection with the draw for the 2026 Men's World Cup, the first prize winner will be announced.

The newly established peace prize, the Fifa Peace Price, is intended to highlight "exceptional efforts for peace," Fifa said in a statement.

"In an increasingly troubled and divided world, it is important to recognize the extraordinary efforts of those who work hard to end conflicts and who seek to bring people together in the name of peace," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

There is speculation that the first recipient of the annual award could be US President Donald Trump.

Trump, who has been clear that he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize earlier this year (it went to María Corina Machado of Venezuela), has a close relationship with Gianni Infantino. Both were also scheduled to speak at an event in Miami, the American Business Forum, on Wednesday.

Another connection between the president and Fifa is that Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka recently took a seat on the board of one of Fifa's charity projects, where funding is partly made up of revenue from ticket sales for the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico next year.
