FIFA Proposes Equalizing Men's and Women's Football Teams for 2028 Olympics

In the Olympic Games, men's football has 16 teams and women's has 12. Now, the International Football Federation (Fifa) is proposing that women's teams be increased to 16 and men's teams be reduced to 12.

The reason is that Fifa wants equality between the sexes, but the participant limit in the summer Olympic Games cannot be increased by adding four teams with leaders, approximately 70 people.

In the Olympic Games, women participate with A-national teams, while men participate with U23-national teams.

It is the International Olympic Committee that decides on the matter. The IOC has its next board meeting on Wednesday.

The upcoming summer Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles in 2028.
