A spokesperson for the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) confirms to The Athletic that Kevin Lamour is leaving as the federation's chief operating officer.

"FIFA thanks Kevin for his two years of work and wishes him the best for the future," the spokesperson said in a statement.

According to information provided to Sky News, Lamour was fired by FIFA.

It was at the end of July that Lamour criticised FIFA President Gianni Infantino after his proposal to sell shares in the World Cup's commercial rights.

Fifa staff have been misled by Infantino's lack of transparency about the plans for the scheme.

"If it means I lose my job, so be it, but at least I'll be able to sleep well tonight," Lamour said.
