It is Fairsquare that has submitted an official accusation against Fifa President Gianni Infantino in an eight-page letter, reports The Athletic.
"It is absolutely clear that he has broken the rules. If the ethics committee does not take this complaint seriously, it means that they will never be able to hold the FIFA president accountable for anything," says Nicholas McGeehan at Fairsquare to NRK.
The organization believes that Infantino has violated FIFA's statutes on four occasions to act "neutrally when it comes to politics and religion." One example highlighted is when Infantino wrote on Instagram on October 9 that Donald Trump deserves to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The following day, it became clear that Trump had been snubbed by the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
Another example is when Infantino spoke approvingly of Trump's policies during a forum for businessmen in Miami, USA, in November this year.
Last Friday – during the World Cup draw in Washington DC – Donald Trump became the first recipient of FIFA's newly established Peace Prize. Fairsquare believes that FIFA's ethics committee should investigate the twists and turns surrounding the FIFA Peace Prize.
The Athletic has previously reported that neither the 28 regular members nor the eight vice-presidents of FIFA's board have been informed that the award would be established or what criteria have been set for someone to be selected as a recipient.
