AIK had, before the group finale at home against bottom team IFK Värnamo, played 1–1 against both Trelleborg and Degerfors, who both had four points when the teams met in Värmland.

To secure a quarterfinal spot, it was first and foremost required that the Degerfors-Trelleborg match ended in a draw. Additionally, AIK needed to win by at least two goals against Värnamo to become group winners via better goal difference.

What the AIK players could influence themselves went their way.

Already in the third minute, 20-year-old Victor Andersson scored a cannon shot from outside the penalty area to 1–0 for the home team.

In the end, the second goal also came. Striker John Guidetti was substituted in in the 77th minute – a little over a minute later, the 32-year-old nodded in 2–0 for AIK.

The problem for AIK? Superettan team Trelleborg won 1–0 against Degerfors and the Scanians took care of first place in group 3. Axel Vidjeskog scored the only goal of the match in the 14th minute.
