International Automobile Federation (Fia) is discontinuing the World Championship rallycross, the federation announces in a statement. One who welcomes the message is Morgan Östlund, manager for the rallycross competitions in Höljes. It is positive, says Östlund to P4 Värmland.

It is not only the World Championship status that disappears until next season, but also the criticized electric cars, which has been a requirement from Östlund.

We must listen to the audience and we hope that they welcome the disappearance of the electric cars, he says.

Instead of a World Championship, it will be a European Championship from 2026. In addition, a standalone global competition is planned under the name World Cup.

If it becomes the European Championship, I think it plays a lesser role for the audience. I think it is more important with petrol cars and a larger starting field, so it is positive, says Östlund.

FIA reports that the hope is that the World Championship rallycross will return sometime after 2028.
