In a statement on Tuesday, FIA said it condemns "harassment and lack of respect on social media" that judges were allegedly subjected to after imposing sporting penalties during the race.

"Disagreeing with decisions is part of the sport, but it never justifies threats or personal attacks," it wrote on its website.

FIA's statement does not mention any specific events or comments.

But there were strong reactions on social media from supporters of Alpine driver Franco Colapinto after he was given two penalties by the judges during Sunday's race.

He was penalized for overtaking despite double yellow flags and later for failing to slow down when the yellow flag was shown.
