The number of new applications for unemployment benefits is decreasing for the third month in a row, according to the Unemployment Insurance Indicator from Sweden's unemployment insurance funds.

"If the influx of new applications continues to decrease during the autumn, this may be the beginning of a slightly decreasing unemployment rate in the group that receives compensation from the unemployment insurance funds", comments the secretary general Tomas Eriksson,

In September, 28,793 people made their first application. This is a decrease of 8.7 percent compared to August.

During both the summer of 2023 and 2024, the number of applications increased in July-September.
