A smaller tanker has run aground in the Stockholm archipelago. There is oil on board, but there are currently no signs that any oil has leaked out, says Jonas Franzén, press spokesperson at the Swedish Maritime Administration.

The vessel, with nine people in the crew, was on its way from Karlskrona to Stockholm when it ran aground at Sandhamn on Saturday evening.

A large-scale operation involving, among others, the Coast Guard and the Sea Rescue Society was dispatched.

We towed it off the ground with the help of our pilot boat, says Jonas Franzén.

It is now anchored a bit further away, where it is being examined for holes in the hull or leakage.

Three holes have been found in the ballast tanks, but not in the oil tanks, says Jonas Franzén.

The vessel will later be towed to a nearby quay. Thereafter, the Transport Agency will assess whether it is seaworthy.
