In 2025, the Swedish Maritime Administration was called out most often for sea rescue operations in Västra Götaland, followed by Stockholm. Across the country, the numbers of both sea and air rescues decreased last year.

"Fewer accidents involving recreational boats largely explain the improvement," says Mattias Hyllert, director of Maritime and Air Rescue at the Swedish Maritime Administration, in a press release.

In 2025, the Swedish Maritime Administration's maritime and air rescue center, JRCC, handled a total of 990 maritime rescue cases, a decrease from 1,012 the previous year. Most often, the alarms were due to engine or propeller failure, grounding or severe weather.

The number of air rescues also decreased, from 701 in 2024 to 589 in 2025.
