Last year, just over 1,000 residential burglaries were reported each month; by November 2025, the number had dropped to under 900 per month, according to preliminary statistics from the Swedish Council for Crime Prevention (Brå).
It is unclear why burglaries have decreased, but one of the police theories is that the value of the stolen goods is not as high, reports Ekot.
"The secondary market has pushed prices down quite a bit. So it's possible that some perpetrators have switched from burglaries to fraud," says Brå investigator Bror Schylander to the radio.
